Don’t Sweat the Heat with These 4 Simple Summer Hairstyles

Even when it's hot and humid outside, you can still look cool as a cucumber this summer as long as you have at least one handy hairstyle to rely on. If you don't have one yet, no worries, work with what you’ve got no matter where you live. Stay cool and rock a great summer look with these four hairstyles.

Perfectly Imperfect, Piecey Ponytail

For women with medium-length to long hair, the ponytail is a go-to for second-day hair or hot summer days. It’s the ultimate everyday, cute look that’s fun to experiment with and easy enough to create. Start with a leave-in volumizing spray on damp hair and create a half-dozen or so twists around your head.

Air-drying the twists or lightly blow-drying them will create beachy waves. Then, using your fingers, gently pull your hair into a high ponytail. The finished look should be piecey, not perfect, for an effortless summer look.

Weekend Waves

Embrace the summer humidity instead of fighting to put each strand in its place. A wavy look works especially well if you have a nice layered cut that highlights natural waves or ones you create. You can control frizz with a product that contains argan oil for weightless moisture and instant shine. You can also create beachy texture with a product containing natural sea salt and humectants to aid in wave and curl retention. Spray it on, crunch with your hands, and air-dry or diffuse with a blow dryer.

Simple Side Braid

Another hairstyle staple is the braid. If you haven't gotten a chance to wash your hair or you're coming straight from the pool or beach, a modern side braid will look great, especially if you have thick, long hair. Simply gather your hair to one side just under your ear, divide it into sections, and braid it. You can always leave a few wispy pieces around your face. Finish the look with a dry hair texturizer finishing spray that’s meant to softly hold hair in place and add piecey volume to the braid.

The Wet Look

The “wet look” is still having its moment and is an excellent style for those with shorter hair. To create the wet look, towel-dry your hair so it’s about about 60% dry and then comb through it with a wide-tooth comb. Although it’s called a wet look, your hair is actually just damp when styling. Apply your favorite styling cream from roots to tips and use your fingers to sculpt your hair into the style you want. Let your hair dry without fussing with it for a carefree, low-maintenance look. Just keep in mind that a smooth, sculpted style should work with your hair’s natural texture, not against it.
